Problem Statement

With the ubiquity of on-demand food delivery apps and platforms such as UberEats and Doordash, online food delivery has become a norm in our society in bringing convenience to customers’ doorsteps.

However, frustrations with the unreliability, inconsistency, and limitations of these services still exist. While these services do mitigate the issue of ordering food to their home, it does not fully address the issue of people with scarcity of time and are often busy with work to prepare or plan food for the week or longer term duration.

Proposed Solution

In order to help customers who desire consistency and convenience in the preparation of their meals so they can stay focused on their work or activities, AirChef helps these customers easily plan the meals for the week at an affordable pricing.

These deliveries are made possible with drones, so customers have more options in specifying the location, day, and time in which they want to have their food delivered. With the efficiency of drones, customers can expect a fast and accurate delivery to their doorsteps better than traditional in-person delivery.

With AirChef, we plan to help regain control of their life and develop a healthier lifestyle by bringing them delightful delicious meals.

Market Size of Drone Delivery

Screenshot - 2022-08-21 23.06.22.png

Key Takeaways

  • Drone delivery is a future trend, but it still has a lot of limitations in current stage; such as, crime concern, safety concern, and system rebuilding.

  • The main problem of current food delivery apps is the high error rate of delivery process; such as, difficulty of arriving destinations, food gets lost, and concern of delivery time.

  • We consider how our indirect competitors bring a good user experiences to consumers; for example, Amazon provides 24/7 pickup/drop off lockers for contactless delivery; Uber has reservation service and high efficiency of contacting platform; Waymo's provides a clean and safe environment to passengers even in a driverless situation.

Research Plan & Result

In order to learn more about our users, we gathered information to understand the user’s characteristics, aims, & behaviors using various methods such as observation, questionnaire, and interview.

This process involve defining the goals of these observations and listing down list of questions we wanted to learn from the users. From there, the team was able to gather data in a consistent and reliable fashion.

What was consistent?

  • Young adults eg. students or within 20s

  • Frustrations with delivery

  • Shortage of time

  • Desire for consistency & convenience

  • Troubles with preparing delicious meals

POV Statement

We met young adults who are often busy with work, and do not have time to prepare food for the week.

We were amazed that they are willing to skip lunch or not have a full one so they can get back to work asap.

It would change the world if they do not have to worry about preparing or ordering food for the week so they can stay focused on their work or activities

HMW Statement

How Might We ensure they have meals delivered to them consistently and conveniently for the week or long-term duration?

User Testing

Round 1

We conducted 7 user testing for with a mid-fi figma prototype of our app

The task scenarios that we tested for

  • Browsing homepage

  • Browsing and ordering a meal plan

What do you prioritize?

It’s a Sunday, how would you order a meal plan when you are planning for your meals for the week?

What information were you expecting on the meal plan page?

  • Checking your order history/meal plan

  • Making an order using Group Buy

  • Checking drone tracking

  • Designate an AR landing spot and order

User Testing Play Book

图片33.png
图片32.png

Key Takeaways

  • Confusion with “Group Buy feature”

  • Missing lots of Visibility of System Status eg. price breakdown

  • User experience was not smooth eg. too many pages

  • Most of the comments revolve around simplifying the ordering process of the meal plan

  • Users prefers to click on elements that have images as opposed to having text

Next Steps

  • Instead of addressing all the comments, we decided to restructure the app or interaction

  • Prioritizing the Meal Plan and AR drone feature

  • Removing unnecessary features, pages

  • Simplifying the steps

  • Comfortability

Were users ready to use the app to modify their lifestyles?

  • Planning meals for the week

Were users ready to use the app to modify their lifestyles?

  • Feasibility

Did the idea of AR landing drone appeal and make sense?

图片45.jpg
图片44.jpg
图片43.png
图片41.jpg

Key Takeaways

  • Lack of options: Users still use UberEats or Doordash because it is the only option available

  • Considerations: Users were concerned about type of food available, portion size in

  • Comfortable: Users like the idea of being able to plan for meals for the week

  • Incentives: Users were attracted to having beverages or dessert to go with their meals

  • Scarcity of Time: Frustrations of preparing meal because of scarcity of time

Next Steps - App Refined

  • Welcome page — Introduce and emphasize functions an delivery

  • One-time delivery function

  • Food customization of meal plan

  • Add-ons eg. drinks, snack
